Eco-Friendly Businesses Pt. 3

Hello everyone! As the holiday season approaches, I thought it would be great to add a 3rd installment to my series of eco-friendly businesses to support, so that’s exactly what we’re doing today! As usual, today I’ll be providing you a list of 5 great brands that not only sell high-quality products, but also have sustainable practices set in place. Keep reading to see what they are!

  1. Sunski

If you’re looking for a new pair of shades, look no further than Sunski! This brand sells a wide variety of sunglasses made for every adventure, and all of their frames are made from recycled materials! What’s even cooler is that SuperLight, the recycled polymer material that the frames are made of, was invented by the founders themselves. You only need one pair from Sunski – their products are so high in quality, design, and function that they’re perfect for everything from a road trip to skiing, but even if you were to doubt them, they are kind enough to provide a lifetime warranty on all of their products.

The brand also sells gear to perfectly complement your new frames such as bags, slings, and hats, and they even have a virtual try-on feature for extra convenience! Sunski is clearly dedicated to sustainability, as they are members of the 1% for the planet initiative (businesses pledge to donate at least 1% of their annual revenue to the environment), have completely eliminated plastic from their packaging, and are climate-neutral certified! They’re doing a great job of keeping their loyal customers connected to nature in the most eco-friendly way possible.

  1. Smidge Beauty

If you’re an avid user of makeup or anything cosmetic-related, you know for a fact how much unnecessary plastic is used in the products. Seeing a major problem, the founder invented the company’s signature Color Balm. Handmade in Canada, these multi-use balms are encased in a completely biodegradable paper tube. They make choosing lipstick, blush, and eyeshadow colors so much easier, and the sustainable packaging allows for the product to be disposed of in a very eco-friendly way – simply throw the finished, shredded tube in the compost! Smidge Beauty even makes sure to eliminate waste by selling products with minor flaws for a reduced price! And what’s more, the recyclable initiative extends beyond the product itself, however, as all of their packing materials are either biodegradable or recyclable themselves.

  1. West Paw

If you’ve got an animal friend around, you’re definitely going to want to check West Paw out! This brand is dedicated to reducing their environmental “pawprint”, and one of the ways they do this is through using eco-friendly materials such as Seaflex (recycled ocean-bound plastic) and Intelliloft (stuffing made from recycled plastic bottles), among others that are biodegradable, non-toxic, recyclable, and/or long-lasting. These are put to good use in West Paw’s goods, which range from toys (including chew toys, plushies, and more) to bedding materials and everything in between.

The brand even makes nutritious, sustainably sourced treats that are sure to give your furry friend lots of energy for their daily adventures, which can also be made easier with West Paw’s leashes and treat pouches. To really double down on recycling, their website provides an address to ship their used toys to, which of course they use to make more toys! Overall, West Paws is the perfect way to help your pets live their best eco-friendly life.

  1. by Humankind

We’ve really hit the sustainable personal product care jackpot with this one here. By Humankind does everything possible to help fight the plastic problem, starting with their products themselves. Their catalog really packs a punch, featuring everything you’d ever need in the bathroom – from toothpaste tablets, to shampoo in metal bottles, to biodegradable floss, to refillable deodorant and more, they’ve got it all. There’s virtually no plastic used here, and they go above and beyond by offering product refills to even further reduce waste. And if that long list of products scares you, the brand offers bundles based on product use (dental, shower, travel, etc) at a discounted price!

Speaking of discounts, the coolest consumer initiative they have is the subscriber program. After you buy your first product and refill, you can sign up to periodically receive new refills as needed for 10% off, helping you maintain your bathroom’s sustainability. And, there’s always free shipping. How cool is that! When it comes to environmentalism though, by Humankind really shows their commitment to fighting plastic waste through their plastic offset program. For $8/month, you can help the brand remove 22 pounds of ocean-bound plastic waste from the environment, which, according to them, is about how much the plastic footprint is for each person in the US per capita. You’ve got to check this brand out for sure if you’re looking for simple ways to help the environment!

  1. Nutr

Last but not least, Nutr is for all you dairy consumers out there. Traditional dairy production is quite taxing on the environment, making more and more people switch over to plant-based milks from almonds and other nuts. These products can be quite pricey in supermarkets, but the Nutr machine is here to help with that. This single-buy product ingeniously blends any type of nut into milk in a mere matter of minutes, and the process is super simple – all you have to do is add your preferred nuts and water to the machine, select the designated temperature, and watch it blend away! This is an absolute game-changer for someone who relies on dairy for nutrition like myself, and to make the dairy experience even cooler, the brand makes its own high-quality reusable drinking cups, bottles, and jugs to enjoy your nut milk in. If you don’t straight up drink milk like I do, don’t fear, as Nutr’s website is home to countless recipes which you can integrate your nut milk into! Say goodbye to carton waste and milk emissions with Nutr this year!

Well, that’s all for today, everyone. Hopefully I’ve given you some inspiration to help you take on your massive holiday gift list, or even introduced you to one of your new ride-or-die brands for yourself. Regardless, I hope you all stay safe and enjoy this wonderful holiday season – I’ll see you all in 2023! Happy Holidays and New Year, everyone!
